Introduction to Rostering

Last Updated on August 21, 2026

What does Rostering do?

Teacher/Class Rosters may be used to determine how students are grouped for reporting, how printed reports (if ordered) are labeled and packaged, and how report visibility is organized within Reporting Services.

TerraNova users with the “DRC IRS – Teacher” permission and/or the “Test Monitoring – Access” permission may be assigned to a Teacher/Class Roster. Users assigned to a roster may be granted access to student reports for students within their assigned roster(s) in Reporting Services.

Teacher/Class Rosters for Paper Test Administrations

DRC recommends creating Teacher/Class Rosters for homeroom teachers first, as the first roster a student is assigned to  will be used for report grouping and the Roster Name will appear on printed Home Reports (if ordered).

Additional Teacher/Class Rosters may be created as needed after primary roster assignments have been established. If a student is not assigned to a Teacher/Class Roster, printed reports will be sorted alphabetically by school and grade with no group name.

  • If Precoding: Once students have been loaded into the DRC INSIGHT Portal, they can be assigned to Teacher/Class Rosters.
  • If Not Precoding: Students will not be available for assignment to Teacher/Class Rosters until all returned materials have been processed. If grouped reporting is needed, Teacher/Class Rosters must be created after processing is complete.

Tips:

  • Be thoughtful when naming your Teacher/Class Roster, as the Roster Name will appear above district and school information on printed home reports. DRC recommends keeping Roster Names brief to avoid truncation.
  • Teacher/Class Rosters should reflect how you want printed reports grouped and packaged.
  • If Teacher/Class Rosters are not created, printed reports will be sorted alphabetically by school and grade with no group name or teacher listed.
  • Teacher/Class Rosters may be created or modified after reporting to organize students and provide teachers with roster-based report visibility within Reporting Services.

Teacher/Class Rosters with Online Test Administrations

Teacher/Class Rosters can be used to associate teachers and administrators with groups of students for report access, visibility, and organization within Reporting Services.

Note: The Teacher assigned to the online test session in test management will serve as the primary reporting group, and the assigned Teacher’s name will be visible on Printed Home Reports (if ordered).

Teachers must be created as Teacher users in User Management to be available for assignment directly to a test session. This is separate from Teacher/Class Rosters, which may be assigned to any user with “DRC IRS – Teacher” permissions and/or “Test Monitoring – Access” permissions to support report visibility within Reporting Services.

Tips:

  • If the teachers were not assigned to the test session in test management the system will use the student’s first Teacher/Class Roster for report grouping and the roster name will appear above the District and School information on printed Home Reports (if ordered).
    • If neither are present, reports will be sorted alphabetically by school and grade with no group name or teacher listed.
  • Teacher/Class Rosters may be created or modified after reporting to organize students and provide roster-based report visibility within Reporting Services
