Creating COS Configurations

Last Updated on June 24, 2026

You can quickly create a new COS Configuration from the COS Dashboard.

Important: Initially, the new COS Configuration will not contain any devices—you must add at least one Testing Device to test (see COS Testing Devices). After you add Testing Devices, you have two options:

You can use the new COS Configuration to test without COS – SDs by getting test content directly from the DRC servers.

You can add one or more COS – SDs to the COS Configuration and turn on Content Management and Content Hosting to have the COS – SDs manage test content for the COS Configuration. To add a COS – SD you will need to know the COS – SD ID (see COS Service Devices).

  1. To create a new COS Configuration, click Add Configuration from the COS Dashboard.
  2. When the Configure Central Office Service page displays, enter a meaningful COS Configuration name in the Configuration Name field.
  3. Specify your COS Configuration options for Proxy Host (see Specifying a Proxy Host or Restricted Proxy Host) and click Next.
  4. Select a testing program from the Testing Program: drop-down menu and a site by clicking the Site: Select a Site… button and typing a district name, school name, or site code in the Site Search filter that displays. When you locate the district or school name to which you want to register the COS Configuration and its associated COS – SDs and Testing Devices, click Select.
  5. The Configure Central Office Service page re‑displays with your site information. Click Add Site.
  6. The site is added to the Locations area of the Configure Central Office Service page. Repeat Steps 4–5 until you have added all of the sites that you want to add. When you are ready, click Save.
  7. When you click Save, the new COS Configuration is created and is displayed in the Configuration Information page. You can add COS – SDs and Testing Devices and turn on Content Management and Content Hosting.
