It is important to establish an ongoing process of collecting and analyzing data to determine a student’s academic and functional performance over time. Data collection is an important way to assess how effective instruction is for a student and to help determine whether any adjustments need to be made. Regularly documenting a student’s instructional and independence levels in relation to an alternate achievement standard can contribute to making informed decisions about the effectiveness of interventions, demonstrate students’ progress over time, and support students in meeting IEP goals.
