Online Testing Accommodations

These are online testing accommodations available for Mississippi assessments. These accommodations MUST be marked in the Portal BEFORE a student begins testing.

For the MAAP & MAAP-A assessments please consult with the Test Coordinator Manual if a student starts testing without an online accommodation.

For BEACON only, if a student starts testing without an online accommodation, the school will need to apply the accommodation(s) on the student’s profile then place the student into a new registration.

Text-to-Speech (TTS) – Read test questions and answer choices [55 – TTS]

  • MAAP
    • The student has audio from the online test read aloud in real time. Schools must supply headphones for students using this accommodation.
      • Read test questions and answer choices
    • Not applicable for ELA and English II Session 1 (Reading) or Grade 3 Reading Retest.

Human Reader/Human Signer – Read test questions and answer choices ASL sign test questions [55 – HR]

  • MAAP
    • The student has the test read aloud in real time. A read-aloud script should be ordered for the human reader to follow when reading to the student.
    • Not applicable for ELA and English II Session 1 (Reading) or Grade 3 Reading Retest.

Paper test [62]

  • MAAP
    • The student tests using a paper test book, but the student’s responses are transcribed into the DRC INSIGHT Online Test Engine.

Large print (paper test) or online enlargement [40]

  • MAAP & MAAP-A
    • The student tests using a large print test book, but the student’s responses are transcribed into the DRC INSIGHT Online Test Engine.

Braille [41]

  • MAAP & MAAP-A
    • The student tests using a braille test book, but the student’s responses are transcribed into the DRC INSIGHT Online Test Engine.
  • BEACON
    • The student tests using a braille test book, but the student’s responses are transcribed into the DRC INSIGHT Online Test Engine.
    • Not applicable for English II, or Algebra I assessments.

Scribe/Transcription [70]

  • MAAP
    • The student requires a scribe or for the test to be transcribed into the DRC INSIGHT Online Test Engine.

Refreshable Braille [RBL]

  • MAAP
    • The student requires refreshable braille accommodation within the DRC INSIGHT Online Test Engine.

Sign Language ASL Video [VSL]

  • MAAP
    • The student has the online test signed to them in American Sign Language (ASL) during testing.
    • Not applicable for ELA and English II Session 1 (Reading) or Grade 3 Reading Retest.
  • BEACON
    • The student has the online test signed to them in American Sign Language (ASL) during testing.
    • Not applicable for ELA, English II, or Algebra I assessments.

Permissive Mode [PM]

  • MAAP
    • The student tests using a permissive mode browser that allows non-embedded speech-to-text and eye tracking technology to run in tandem in a secure environment with the DRC INSIGHT Online Test Engine.

    • The student has audio from the online test read aloud in real time. Schools must supply headphones for students using this accommodation.

    • The student has audio from the online test read aloud in real time. Schools must supply headphones for students using this accommodation.
      • Reads passages, test questions, and answer choices

DS – Arabic Glossing [AG]

  • MAAP
    • A language support available to students that translates specific words to the listed language.
    • Not applicable for ELA or English II.

DS – Chinese Glossing [CG]

  • MAAP
    • A language support available to students that translates specific words to the listed language.
    • Not applicable for ELA or English II.

DS – Gujarati Glossing [GG]

  • MAAP
    • A language support available to students that translates specific words to the listed language.
    • Not applicable for ELA or English II.

DS- Spanish Glossing [SG]

  • MAAP
    • A language support available to students that translates specific words to the listed language.
    • Not applicable for ELA or English II.

DS – Vietnamese Glossing [VG]

  • MAAP
    • A language support available to students that translates specific words to the listed language.
    • Not applicable for ELA or English II.
